Spring and summer are seasons that a lot of us love to spend outside. Whether we are hiking, camping, fishing or just hanging out outside, we enjoy basking under the sunlight. However, these are prime seasons for bug bites. Rather than using traditional medicine that may be harmful to your skin, look into some homeopathic solutions for insect bites instead.

What is Homeopathic Medicine?

Our bodies communicate with us through pain and discomfort. When we are not feeling well or are experiencing swelling and itching, we know something is wrong. Homeopathic medicine is the art of healing through the symptoms we experience.

Homeopathic Remedies

Ditch traditional medicine options and try a homeopathic remedy for insect bites. Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic and don’t have any crazy side effects. These medicines are natural and made from herbs, minerals, and animal products.

Apis Mellifica

Use this if your bite or sting is red and swollen and only feels better with cold application. Allergic reactions to insect stings instantly respond to the use of apis. A dose of 30C is all you should need. You can repeat the dose every 30-60 minutes if you do not see a change in swelling.

Ledum Pal

When you are dealing with unusually large insect bites or animal bites, Ledum is a ‘bite master remedy.’ These wounds are cold to the touch but you often see improvements when using cold application.

Urtica Urens

If your main symptoms are hives and itching, this is a homeopathic remedy for you. These can include mosquito bites and even bites from jellyfish. If you can’t stop scratching because it feels too good, utilize urtica urens.

Home Recipe for Bug Spray

This amount should last you a month or the whole summer, depending on how often you use it.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of 80 percent rubbing alcohol
  • 20 drops of eucalyptus oil
  • 10 drops of citronella oil
  • 5 cups of distilled water
  • 20-40 lavender stalks or 4 tbsp of lavender buds
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks broken up

Process

Mix your rubbing alcohol, eucalyptus oil and citronella oil in a bowl and put it aside. Next, bring five cups of distilled water to a boil. Add in your lavender, lemon juice, and cinnamon sticks. Lower the heat and let simmer for ten minutes. Then, strain your mixture into a bowl and let cool for ten minutes. Lastly, add in your rubbing alcohol and oil mix. IT is important to let this mixture sit first because the high percentage will diffuse the essential oil into alcohol to help blend it with the water mixture. This remedy protects well against mosquito bites
